The Year of Like...Realising Stuff
Well hello there, it is the final countdown until the new year, just over a week until 2023 comes to a close, are we ready for it? Who else is ready for the Xmas break? What is your fav Xmas film? What is your go-to festive tradition?
I am writing this before all my Xmas plans unfold... firstly, I am heading to my sisters in Leigh On Sea for a quick overnight stay consisting of baking cookies, watching Xmas films and so forth, before we drive to my parents for more Xmas festivities, the good ol tradition of shopping on Xmas eve, a dinner cooked my dad, an Xmas day with my grandparents, the ultimate Xmas feast and the Eastenders Xmas special. Before, my sister, parents and I finally head on the 6-hour drive to Cornwall for the ultimate DND trip by the seaside, hibernation mode on.
When it comes to this time of the year, I can't help but have this whirlwind mix of emotions, questioning how this year went by so fast, how am I here compared to where I was a year ago, and god, what the F is going to happen next year? So, thanks to the infamous Kylie Jenner saying, the year of like... realising things, this is just a list of random things I realised in 2023.
Hot girls set boundaries, and we stick to them
This year I have learnt all about the power of boundaries, from working, from friendships, and relationships. This could be certain deadlines with work, or communicating your boundaries with your partner, check out my top tips below:
Define your priorities to determine where you need boundaries the most.
Communicate these boundaries to those around you.
Learn to say no.
Create barriers like do not disturb on your phone or a 'specific' working space at home.
There is nothing quite like a good book and a brew...
When I started this year, my goal was to read 23 books, I have read over double this goal this year. Proud moment alert. In need of some book inspo, check these books out:
Magnolia Parks Universe, I get utter shivers with this series and I will die on this hill, this is the best series of the year.
Cleo and Frank, just for the pure heartbreak, desperation and modern-day love story.
Daisy Jones & The Six, TikTok made me do it, and the Amazon Prime series made me love it more.
You can do anything you put your mind to...
Whether this is something as small as drinking more water, as fun as learning to paint for fun or as monumental as starting your own business, you can do it. My guide on how to set goals:
Define your goals, and break these down into smaller steps, this provides the ultimate roadmap for success.
Stick with a positive mindset, and surround yourself with all the positive vibes, people and habits.
Failure is bound to happen a couple of times, embrace these setbacks as opportunities to learn and grow.
The power of exercising is majorly undefeated
I have been on one hell of a journey when it comes to health and fitness, only a year ago I was uncomfortable heading to the gym on my own, to now making movement a non-negotiable in my daily routine, even heading to an affiliate gym event, mad. Some fitness recs for you:
The Form App by Sami Clarke, a platform with a mix of classes from pilates, recipes and more.
Go to the gym with a plan, check out Holly Barnes as she helped plan my workouts to help achieve my goals.
The year of the HGW, exercise doesn't always have to be a sweat sesh, hit those 10k steps and enjoy nature.
Life is better when you have a good podcast to plug into...
2023 was the year of the podcasts for me, (thanks Spotify wrapped) from inspirational stories to everything wellness to episodes that make me laugh, my poddies are the only long-term relationship I want to keep in 2024. My favourite podcasts are:
Shameless, the pop culture for smart people who love dumb stuff. I learned a lot from these two Aussies.
Manifest by Tori DeSimone, the go-to podcast for wellness shit, manifestation, productivity tips and routine hacks. A great way to start your week.
Giggly Squid, I am for real a giggler now, and not ashamed come for everything lols, you'll love it.
Note to Self, the podcast for all things sisterly advice with break-up tips to navigating every stage of life. I love it and I love Payton.
Literally, nothing lasts forever...
This thought scares me shitless, but it does kinda give you the ultimate kick up the ass. Relationships end, jobs come and go, and friendships might not last. Using this mindset consider:
Live in the moment more and appreciate the experiences, relationships, and opportunities that are currently a part of your life.
Practice gratitude for the all good things you have and the positive aspects of your life, a good reminder to have when things are tough.
Do more things you are scared of, quit your shitty job, ask that person on a date, and book the flight to your dream destination.
