Mercury In Retrograde, Mindset Shifts & Mexico

Hey huns hey. How was the last month for you? Mine was full of highlights like a Eurovision Party and a spontaneous trip to Brighton, as well as a low-low. I started this month on the sunny beach in Mexico at the Hard Rock Hotel, and ended it on the beautiful beaches of Whitstable, how amazing can life be right? But life isn't always sunshine and rainbows, especially in grey and bleak England, and I wanted to discuss all of this in this blog post, so get comfy.

2023. 12 chapters. Let's do this.

WTF Is Mercury In Retrograde?

In astrology, Mercury is known as the planet of communication, intelligence, media and technology in our day-to-day lives. Vibes right? When this planet goes into retrograde, some believe it has major effects on their routine, like a late train messing up a schedule or an email bouncing back for no frickin' reason. People might experience delays, hesitations, things breaking down, or exhaustion of energy. Or for me, spraining my ankle which ultimately ended in all of the above.

I'll set the scene, on the last day of my trip to Mexico, I not so gracefully fell off a bus at Cancun Airport and severely sprained my right ankle. It was a moment for the books, but one that completely messed up my daily routine which I feel like I have perfected over the last two months.

Once the longest 10-hour flight with a bandaged ankle was over and after a quick stop at A&E, I had to come to terms that I had to sit around on my ass all day and rest. Me? Who has to go to the gym for my silly little mental health? Me? Who lives for the daily HGW with a lifestyle podcast? Me? Who can't sit still? How frustrating.

So, because I am Virgo through and through. I wanted to consider how I use this ''crappy'' time, to my benefit... introducing my mindset shifts.

And why? Because rest is productive. And without rest, you won't go back to the normal routine that suits you. Research shows that rest reduces stress and gives you the opportunity to be more active. So I took this sign from the higher universe, the moon and good ol' Mercury Retrograde to lay on my sofa, binge-watch Masterchef, finish a couple more books and enjoy this rest. Because it won't last for long. (Since then, I have got back to the gym and back to the grind!)

This mindset shift has made me more grateful for the small things I include in the day-to-day routine of my life like journalling, seeing my pals, daily movement, and HGWs with my podcasts. So thanks Mercury Retrograde, IOU.

So the thing we have all been waiting for, Mexicooooo bby!

If you follow me over on my Instagram, you would have seen the continuous stream of Mexico content, from IG stories, a reel, and plentiful grid posts. But, I wanted to go into more detail about my trip away. At the beginning of May, I headed on an all-inclusive retreat to the Hard Rock Hotel in Riviera Maya in Mexico. It was insane.

The highlights include:

  • The heat. LOL. Any British person would relate to this. British Summer Time hasn't fully hit yet, and it was nice to get away and enjoy the sunshine.

  • Sharing a room with my newfound bestie, Jade. We became so close on this trip especially as we have similar interests and we just vibed off each other.

  • Dressing in cute outfits. I live in joggers or active wear on a day-to-day basis, and it felt nice to dress up and feel like a princess.

  • Heading to Tulum to explore the ruins, and get into the culture.

  • ALL the poolside mocktails, the greatest guacamole, and the unlimited food. Who doesn't love an all-inclusive holiday?

  • The facilities at the hotel, include the spa, the gym and plenty of bars and restaurants.

This trip made me want to book my next holiday, which I am heading to in July. So watch this space.
